lyrics

Verse (Freddy):
Cold air, hold hair from the blows where/
wind chills to the bone there, slomo stairs/
hold close to my nose closed coat grow warm/
snow slow rolls down and floats to the road/
salt trucks show up sure nuff show down/
salt dump truck dumps down ground mounds/
the only sound now's phone calls round town/
sorry but im feeling sick cough ouch ow/
snow men grow limbs, kids rollin/
down hill, down wind, fun times tobogganing/
bothered by the hollering, the elderly get loud at them/
hearing bells from santa with buckets but no deposits in/
women in collagen, never acknowledging/
anything besides the sale receipt and greeting card modeling/
the holidays get dim, streets they get salt encrusted and/
you realize man i can't wait for it to be hot again/ the winter/

Bridge (Tony):
Oh winter you can be so cold/
A breeze so cold could only be winter right?/
But oh winter though you seem so cold/
Have you seen these souls, these souls/
Winter have you seen these souls, these souls/
Winter have you seen these souls, these souls/
In the summer nights?/
These souls in the summer nights/
Turn cold with a bitter bite/

Verse (Tony):
Out of hibernation temps rising like the rage is/
Violence the vocation and it’s finally off vacation/
Some kids just want to go outside and soak all of the rays in/
Without the fear they might be soaking in some strays/
Pride is in the Chi set on prying some from life/
Fighting over signs, highs, and prices for the highs/
And I’m just on the sidelines writing like I might/
Somehow silence all the sirens and the cries/
And as I’m driving by, irony in sight/
The light so warm and bright, but their eyes so cold and dim/
Almost soulless, going through the motions/
A robotic focus, showing no emotions/
That’s weakness to their close friends as if they even have close friends/
Watch how quick that bond gets broken, no friends/
No end to the backstabs, the skin’s broken/
Get your home broke in, from a broken home kid/
Who’s hope is running low, I’m sitting in my home/
Cozy watching summers murder toll grow/
To record highs, nothing colder than July/
When the lies choke the youth, stolen youth and also have a hold on you/
Thinking God’ll move, so I ain’t gotta move/
I hate the show and prove, but my no showing proves/
I don’t even want a slow improve/
Withholding Truth certainly won’t close the wound/
They want to bring the National Guard in but people we’re the National Guard if/
We’d only take our passion and barge in/
To these kid’s lives, pastors get to the marching/
Body, Limbs to Heart, getting to stitching up scars quick/
This is the target/
Summer’s got us living in darkness, it’s odd/
But this is the farthest/
From summer I’ve seen, summer’s deceived, now winter’s relief indeed/

Bridge (Freddy):
The steam rising, temps dropping/
and colors gone, grey is all i see/
grey is all i see/
telling you grey is all i see/
see credit bills rising, peace dropping/
and family's gone, grey is all i see/
grey is all i see/
telling you grey is all i see

Verse (Freddy):
Dusty roads, grey on every surface, the furnace/
on in every home the wind sounding just like a circus/
lion with no tamer, the homeless growing fainter/
as the pennies in their pockets start disappearing like vapors/
gone are the songs, along with the throngs/
of youngins surrounding their snow towers just like king kong/
in their place is a space where dreams can lay waste away/
present day so far removed from the day they call present day/
potholes, potshots, little bros smoking pot/
copped outta pop's box too cold for the hop scotch/
too cold for a goal with uncles at a truck stop lot/
paradox feeling hot anger cannot connect the dots/
traffic like trapped inside a massive line of beiber tots/
the fever's hot, the reasons sought out, brought up squat/
but in the distance, a glimpse of the peace i sought/
knots of cotton falling to the ground now like some rising chalk/
some shocked, some flock to the snow plott spots/
others swat the block, snow shovels covered in body socks/
slow trots by the toe nose tots/
through the snow throw zone, leaving folks in snow smocks/
smiles locked, color back by the lot/
by the snow stock, cover up the old spots/
its winter at its best, for the moment the snows dropped/
last harvest of the season, can't wait for next year's crop to drop/

Bridge (Tony):
i'm getting seasoned by seasons/
with seasons within themselves/
and i'm imprisoned in seasonal cells/
i'm not gonna stay inside, i'm not gonna stay inside

Verse (Tony):
I’m just a starving dude at a barbeque/
Know life is not a picnic and it startles you/
Far from the innocence I started with/
Still pleading for the freedom of the park district/
Somehow the Chi gets, to feeling like an island/
Running wild in the sprinklers and the hydrants/
I dig up diamonds, memories inside with/
Family united and cleats digging in the diamond/
It’s no surprise it’s when our eyes were widest/
Appreciating life in its purest and its finest/
I hope to find it, invite it to change the climate/
Summer used to sing not sting with streets this silent/
